Hey there guys! I'd like to introduce you to Cory and Jessica. This sweet couple got together with me back in March for their pre-wedding couple's session. All of my wedding packages include a complimentary couple's session. Even if a couple thinks that they don't want or need "engagement" pictures I always encourage them to have this session anyway. In some ways it's not even really about the pictures, it's about the all of us getting to know one another and the couple getting comfortable with me and my camera before the wedding day.
Anyway, back to Cory and Jessica. Funny story on how they found me as their wedding photographer. Back in November I was doing mini sessions at the Belmont Christmas tree farm. As I was walking back to my car with my camera Jessica's mom stops me and says "do you do wedding photography?" I said "well as a matter of fact I am booking weddings for 2018" her mom says "this is my daughter Jessica, she's getting married in May and needs a photographer". Jessica totally had this look of "really mom? here, now?" but I gave her my information and we all went on our way. I had pretty much forgotten all about it until Jessica emailed me after the holidays. She and I planned a meeting at Doughlicious in Locust Grove. I get to Doughlicious only to find that the are closed on Mondays. Ugh. I wait for Jessica to arrive, apologize for not knowing that the doughnut shop was closed (which kinda bummed us both out because we wanted a donut!) and I was all set to have her follow me to a different location clear up route 3 when I remembered the Wilderness Library was just down the street. Guys, the library is actually a really nice quiet place to have a meeting. Anyhow, after the meeting Jessica went home to talk it all over with Cory and a couple of days later she contacted me to let me know that they were ready to hire me! So we set up a date and time to meet for their pre-wedding couple's session.
We ended up with a beautiful warm day in March (quite a feat when you consider the fact that it seemed like this year had the never ending winter) to meet up at the beautiful Rounton Farm in Orange, VA for their photos. You guys, this couple is so sweet and laid back, it was so much fun photographing them. At one point while we were walking to different areas of the farm we were chatting and I asked them how long they had been together. Let me tell you, I could totally see the look on their faces saying "ugh NOT this question" before they answered. Now I have to admit, sitting here right now I can't remember if they said 9, 10 or 11 years, but at any rate I am pretty sure I SHOUTED at them "HA I got you beat! My husband and I were together 12 years before we got married!" Which made us all laugh a little bit (I think because I shouted as if I had totally won some kind of competition) and I felt like I could relate to them after that because I have sooooo been in the "ugh not that question" place. In some ways after a couple has been together that long there can be an attitude of "look we're obviously committed to each other getting married is just a piece a paper" but I am here to tell you that it's not. There's a different level of commitment when you say those vows in front of God and your friends (even if you do it in Vegas like me). It does feel different to call someone your husband or wife rather than your boyfriend or girlfriend.
Anyway, I am rambling again. As I sit here writing this it is raining buckets. Like the whole area is under flash flood watches and it has rained all week. I am hoping and praying for Cory and Jessica that by 3:00 tomorrow afternoon the skies will magically clear for their wedding. However, if it doesn't I know that it will still be beautiful and I will be there to capture all of the beautiful moments as they become husband and wife. (but I still want it to stop raining)
Please leave your best wishes for Cory & Jessica in the comments below!
